About Me

Samantha Foss is a multi-instrumentalist and genre-savvy musician of exceptional skill and ability. Her continued success in recent years is likely to reach even greater heights if she continues to create music that people adore. Her career speaks for itself with a diverse and high-caliber approach that garners lifelong fans from all who hear her.

Early Years

At a young age, she was infected with the performing bug while riding in the car with her mother. Her mother was a single parent who worked tirelessly to support Samantha and sang in local cover bands. While her mother drove her to work, she would play Samantha an oldies station and teach her how to harmonize while the two sang along.

It wasn't easy to grow up in Georgia at the time. Foss did not always get to spend much time with her mother due to her mother's need to work multiple jobs. Most of her time was spent at home preparing meals for her mother upon her return from work. This gave Foss the maturity and independence to thrive when the music called.

Samantha Foss also took guitar and piano lessons early on, with her mother paying local teachers what she could afford. Samantha mastered both early on and began writing songs at nine. The school was difficult for her, and she was frequently bullied for her interest in music other than top 40 radio. Others made fun of her because she had a single mother, which was uncommon then.

University and Learning Music

She channeled the emotional turmoil this situation caused her at the time into her songs and singing. Her teachers recognized her talent early on and encouraged her to play regularly. Eventually, she began to win talent competitions in Georgia, her hometown. These competitions ultimately led to her senior year scholarship win at the Georgia School of Performing Arts.

Foss discovered her true calling after graduating from high school: music. Through the music program, she made friends who recognized her natural talent. Not only did she play in multiple school-related bands, primarily as a rhythm guitarist or vocalist, but she also formed multiple groups with her friends. They predominantly performed a blend of rock and soul, with Foss frequently performing lead vocals.

Foss also learned music theory during this time and expanded her arranging ability. She became the band's resident songwriter, singer, and arranger and frequently composed intricate vocal harmonies. Foss also often mastered additional instruments, including bass guitar, anything with keys, and tuned percussion and drum kits. This made her invaluable in a variety of contexts.

After completing her degree, Samantha Foss settled in Georgia and continued playing with numerous bands. Others featured her as a side musician, while most highlighted her talents. However, her talent could have been more obvious to be noticed for an extended period. Eventually, she ended up taking over virtually every band and experimenting with unique styles and sounds with each to further develop her skills.

Success In and Beyond

Foss began performing at open mic nights, but they quickly earned opening slots with local bands. Her ability to play in any style and pick up songs without using sheet music impressed her peers. Foss, who can play by ear and read music, has performed in rock bands and soul groups, rap ensembles, jazz performances, and even classical concerts.

Several years after beginning her professional career, Foss became a mainstay on the Georgia music scene and was regarded as one of the most dependable musicians in the area. She was known to play the guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and reed instruments such as the clarinet. This made it easier for her to play in numerous bands, and despite her hectic schedule, she was financially secure.

Eventually, she signed a recording contract with a local independent label owned and operated by her then-partner, Julius Hitchcock. Hitchcock is a talented rapper and performer in his own right, and he and Jules began recording as Sam and Jules. Their rich and varied sound was characterized by insistent rhythms and his expert upright bass work. They had a significant impact on the scene for several years.

During this time, Samantha Foss recorded with multiple bands and released solo albums under various monikers. These included The Sam Foss Experiment albums, Soul Sisters, and The Blues Shouters. They consistently sold in the Georgia metropolitan area, making it easier for her to tour the Midwest, including Indianapolis and Detroit.

Accomplishments and Awards

As her fanbase grows, she has extended her tours and plans to travel to the East and West Coasts to tour, network with musicians, and possibly collaborate with local artists in these diverse regions. However, due to her devotion to Georgia, this Midwest musician is unlikely to relocate.

She is an accomplished photographer and painter who has sold some of her work. Her original artwork includes pen and ink drawings, watercolors, and digital art. Additionally, Foss is an avid Cubs fan who attends games whenever possible. Her early fascination with television resulted in a monthly YouTube show where she performed her music, displayed her artwork, and discussed current events with her friends.
